Compassion Measures Toolbox
2023
Compassion is increasingly recognized as a key indicator of quality care by patients, families, medical associations, healthcare providers, and governments. Research demonstrates that compassion is positively associated with a variety of patient-reported outcomes, the alleviation of healthcare provider burnout, positive health outcomes and improved quality of care ratings.
The Compassion Research Lab, in partnership with the Task Force for Global Health’s Focus Area for Compassion and Ethics (FACE), authored an evidence-based report on selecting and implementing compassion measures to assess compassion at the patient, healthcare provider, and system/organizational level. The resulting toolkit provides tools to determine the optimal measures to improve compassion whereever you work in the healthcare system. The measures also align with World Health Organization’s four quality groups to continue supporting your overall quality improvement efforts.
