CCIH at APHA 2012 Annual Meeting Print {sharethis label=}
CCIH was pleased to have a presence at the American Public Health Association (APHA) 140th Annual Meeting & Exposition October 27-31 in San Francisco, California. At the meeting, CCIH Executive Director Ray Martin facilitated a session titled Religious Advocates for Family Planning? Yes! Real and Effective. CCIH members discussed experiences helping families achieve healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies and increasing contraceptive use in communities in the developing world by reaching them with effective messaging and engaging community health workers and religious leaders in education. CCIH staff addressed family planning advocacy both internationally and in the United States.
 
Speakers included Adrienne Allison of World Vision; Dr. Sarla Chand of IMA World Health; Dr. Ron Mataya of Loma Linda University; Dr. Douglas Huber, Reproductive Health Specialist; and Mona Bormet and Amy Metzger of CCIH.
 
Lifetime Achievement Award for CCIH's Ray Martin
On the evening of October 30, CCIH Executive Director Ray Martin received the APHA International Health Section Lifetime Achievement Award at the section's awards ceremony. Ray was recognized for his long career in international health and tireless efforts to raise awareness of the contributions of faith-based organizations in achieving global health goals.
